Kinder 1
Grade 1

Bethel International School officially opened June 11, 2001 starting with Kindergarten 1, Kindergarten 2, Grade 1 and Grade 2 classes. It is located in a 4.5 – hectare property in Pawing National Highway, Palo, Leyte Philippines. Paul Varberg founded the school to serve Region 8 by helping to prepare the students for a fast-changing modern world. Bethel offers an international curriculum that will equip the children to grow with a godly character. Bethel International School seeks to model and teach students to build their lives on Biblical principles. Additionally, Bethel is committed to develop future leaders attuned to the new challenges and the more intense competition of a global community.

The word “international” in the School’s name refers to the curriculum offered, not to the student body. Bethel now has classes Kindergarten 1 up to Grade 6. It is in the School’s plan to complete the elementary division including Grade 7 by School Year 2006 – 2007. Bethel also will offer a full High School program by School Year 2011 – 2012. Each Elementary classroom has a maximum population of twenty-five (25) students. The student enrollment in Pre-School is limited to 20 in Kinder 1 and 22 in the Kinder 2 classes respectively.

Construction of the three-story Kanluran Building is on going to expand the School’s facilities. The portions of the floor which will be functional at the opening in June 2005 are the following: the Grade 1classroom, the Medical/Dental Clinic and the other support classrooms for Counseling/Conference, Computer, HELE and Chinese Language. Eventually at the end of the construction, the Kanluran Building will house the complete Elementary and High School shared facility including the Art, Music, Computer, Science Laboratory and the HELE units. Additionally, there will be a mini-auditorium and assembly facility in the new building.

Management

The Board if Trustees is the governing, policy-making body of the Bethel composed of ten members who serve for a term of three years and eligible for reelection for another term. Membership to the Board if Trustee is not limited to parents of students enrolled at Bethel.

The Board consists of a Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Treasurer, Secretary and the members. They set educational, admission, personnel and financial policies. They enter into contracts and accept contributions or donations to the school. Generally, they are responsible for the affairs, funds property and maintenance of the school.

The Principal is the head of the school and supervises the day to day management of the school in cooperation with the entire faculty and staff. The qualified faculty and support staff work collaboratively to ensure students’ welfare and to maintain quality education.
